Oral Abstract and Award Information
Oral Abstract Consideration
An Oral Abstract Session is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, April 24th. The presenters in this session will be the highest ranked abstract submitters in each of the three categories (Observational Science, Mechanisms of Disease, and Disease Modulation/Intervention). The three presenters will receive an honorarium in the amount of $2,500 each; in addition to any grants or awards they will also apply for/receive. All submitted abstracts will be considered for the Oral Abstract Session. If you DO NOT wish to be considered for an oral presentation, please check the appropriate box on the abstract submission web site.
CSCR will offer the following awards for 2009. Please note special requirements below. Be sure to indicate which award you are applying for when submitting your abstract online (this is available in a pull-down menu on the online submission). To qualify for any of the following awards, abstracts and supporting materials/letters of support must be received on or before the abstract deadline of December 12, 2008 via the abstract submission web site. Candidates must also be available to present their research at either the Thursday, April 23rd or Friday, April 24th poster session.
- Grants will be made available to current K08, K23 and K30 Awardees who submit an abstract for poster presentation. Thirty (30) grants in the amount of $1,000 each will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to these individuals. The qualifications to apply for and receive a K Award Grant are: 1) the applicant has submitted proof of their K Award status via the abstract submission web site; 2) the applicant has been accepted to present a poster at the Combined Annual Meeting; 3) the applicant must attend the conference and present their research. Candidates are requested to upload proof of K Awardee status on or before the abstract deadline of December 12, 2008 on the abstract submission web site.
- One Outstanding Young Investigator Award of $1,000 will be recognized. Criteria for this award include: 1) independent review and determination of outstanding scientific achievement in the basic or applied sciences; 2) candidates for this award must be available for poster presentation of their abstract at the 2009 Combined Annual Meeting on either Thursday, April 23 or Friday, April 24, 2009. Candidates are requested to upload a letter of nomination from their department chairperson and curriculum vitae on or before the abstract deadline of December 12, 2008 on the abstract submission web site.
- The Cardiovascular Subspecialty Section of CSCR is offering a $1,000 Cardiovascular Investigator Award for medical students, residents, fellows, and pre-doctoral and post-doctoral PhD’s. Criteria for this award include: 1) independent review and determination of outstanding scientific achievement in cardiovascular science; 2) candidates for this award must be available for poster presentation of their abstract at the 2009 Combined Annual Meeting on either Thursday, April 23 or Friday, April 24, 2009. Candidates are requested to submit a letter of nomination from their department chairperson and curriculum vitae on or before the abstract deadline of December 12, 2008 on the abstract submission web site.
- CSCR will sponsor a number of travel awards to trainees (student, resident, or fellow) and junior faculty selected to present a poster or abstract at the 2009 meeting in order to subsidize expenses such as travel, accommodations and abstract submission fees. The award winners will be selected based on abstract scoring review and final judgment of an ad hoc committee. Awards for those trainees from the city of Chicago and surrounding area will be $200 and $500 for those outside the surrounding area or outside the state of Illinois. The qualifications to apply for and receive a travel award are: 1) the trainee or junior faculty has been accepted to present a poster at the Combined Annual Meeting; 2) the trainee or junior faculty is not eligible to be reimbursed as an NCRR supported trainee; 3) the trainee must attend the conference and present their research; 4) the first author must be three years or less from completion of his or her fellowship. To qualify for consideration of a travel award, the trainee must be the presenter and first or second author of a submitted abstract. Candidates are requested to upload a letter of recommendation on or before the abstract deadline of December 12, 2008 on the abstract submission web site.
MWAFMR/Centocor Scholar’s Program
The MWAFMR will once again be offering the Centocor Scholar’s Program in Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and Immunology (by invitation). The purpose of this program is to promote the careers of junior investigators by giving them an opportunity to give oral presentations in a critical but intimate and friendly environment and network with both established and early investigators in their area of interest. Industry representatives have kindly agreed to fund this program. A $500 honorarium will be awarded to the investigators with the highest ranked abstracts in this area. To be considered for the Scholar’s Program, check the appropriate box on the abstract submission form. Only students, residents and fellows are eligible.
