Awards

ORAL ABSTRACTS

Each year the Combined Annual Meeting committee selects three of the highest ranking abstracts from all submitted to provide oral presentations as well as display their posters. The three presenters will receive honoraria in the amount of $2,500 each. All abstracts will be considered for the Oral Abstract Session. If you DO NOT want to be considered for an oral presentation, please indicate so on the abstract submission form. All Oral Abstract winners will be expected to be present for the entire meeting.

ABSTRACT AWARDS

CSCTR & MWAFMR annually offer monetary awards for abstract submissions. The awards recognize outstanding scientific achievement in basic or applied sciences, as well as cardiovascular science. In addition CSCTR offers a number of travel awards to junior faculty. Please review the descriptions below, you must indicate the specific award you are applying for when you submit your abstract. Note: Most of the awards require additional supporting materials, (i.e. letters of nomination, as well as curriculum vitae). Please carefully read all award criteria.

K Award
30 grants for $1000 each will be made available to current K08, K23 and K30 awardees who submit an abstract that is accepted for poster presentation. To qualify for this award, the applicant must submit proof of their K Award status. If the abstract is accepted, the awardee must attend the Opening Session on Friday, April 26, 2013 to accept their award and must attend the duration of the 2013 Combined Annual Meeting to present their research.

Outstanding Young Investigator Award
CSCTR will award $2000 to the individual who qualifies as the 2013 Outstanding Young Investigator. The Outstanding Young Investigator will be selected from abstracts submitted for the 2013 Combined Annual meeting. Abstracts will be reviewed based on independent review and determination of outstanding scientific achievement in the basic or applied sciences Candidates are required to submit a "letter of nomination" from their department chairperson; as well as, a current curriculum vitae for review. Candidates applying for this award must be available for presentation of their abstract either Thursday, April 25 or Friday, April 26, 2013.

Cardiovascular Award
The Cardiovascular Subspecialty Section of CSCTR is offering a $1,000 Cardiovascular Investigator Award for medical students, residents, and fellows as well as pre and post doctoral PhD's. Abstracts reviewers will be looking for research that demonstrates independent review and determination of outstanding scientific achievement in cardiovascular science. Candidates applying for this award must be available for presentation of their abstract either Thursday, April 25 or Friday, April 26, 2013.

Trainee Travel Awards
Each year CSCTR sponsors a number of travel awards; for trainees (student, resident, or fellow) and junior faculty selected to present a poster or abstract at the Combined Annual Meeting. In 2013 CSCTR will again provide a subsidy to those individuals to aid in offsetting travel, accommodations, abstract or informative case report submission fees. Awards for trainees for the Chicago and the surrounding area will be $300. Those traveling into Chicago from outside the Illinois border are eligible for a $600 award.

To receive this award, the abstract or informative case report of trainee or junior faculty must have been accepted for presentation at the 2013 Combined Annual Meeting. In addition the first author of the accepted abstract or informative case report must be three years or less from completion of their fellowship. The trainee or junior faculty must be the presenter and first or second author of the submitted abstract or informative case report. The author must include a letter of recommendation along with their abstract or informative case report.

Lastly, the trainee or junior faculty must attend the conference and present their research.

MWAFMR Scholar's Program
The MWAFMR will again be offering the Scholar's Program in Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and Immunology (by invitation). The purpose of this program is to promote the careers of junior investigators by giving them an opportunity to give oral presentations in a critical but intimate and friendly environment and network with both established and early investigators in their area of interest. A $500 honorarium will be awarded to the investigators with the highest ranked abstracts or informative case report in these areas. To be considered for the Scholar's Program, check the appropriate box on the abstract or informative case report submission form. Only students, residents, and fellows are eligible.
